SHARPEN YOUR KNIVES FOR THE LOWCOUNTRY FOOD BANK AT THE COASTAL CUPBOARD

CHARITY KNIFE SHARPENING EVENT

Get your dull knives sharpened for just $1 per knife to help reach $5,000 donation goal

May 2, 2015 – Mount Pleasant, SC – Help The Coastal Cupboard raise $5,000 for the Lowcountry Food Bank at the store’s Semi Annual Charity Knife Sharpening Event this June. This year the event has been extended an extra day and will be held Wednesday, June 8th – Sunday, June 12th from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm Wed-Sat; 12:00 – 4:00 pm Sun. The community is invited to sharpen its knives for just $1 per knife donation where every dollar will benefit the Lowcountry Food Bank’s Childhood Hunger programs.

The Coastal Cupboard hosts two Charity Knife Sharpening Events a year, and this is the fifth year. To date, the store has raised nearly $35,000 for Charleston based charities including East Cooper Meals on Wheels, Backpack Buddies, The Charleston Basket Brigade, Feed the Need, and more.

Dull knives are dangerous; they make cutting and chopping difficult and timely; and everyone has at least one in a kitchen drawer. So bring those knives to The Coastal Cupboard where the staff will sharpen away the wear and tear, and put on a brand new edge, while donating each dollar to the Lowcountry Food Bank.

Brad Pitner, owner of The Coastal Cupboard said, “We added another day to the sharpening event this year, in an effort to exceed our goal to raise $5,000 for the Lowcountry Food Bank’s Childhood Hunger Programs.  We want to help in any way we can to feed these kids in need.”

“The Lowcountry Food Bank’s goal is to target childhood hunger when school is out. Summers place a huge financial strain on families that are already struggling to put food on the table. Only one out of every five local children in need are receiving the summer meals they need to stay healthy and active through the summer months. We work with partners to provide healthy meals at over forty locations. We are proud to partner with Coastal Cupboard to make sure that kids don’t have to be afraid of an empty belly this summer.” Contributed Erin Fisher, VP of Community Initiatives for LCFB.

“We invite everyone in the Charleston area to go through their drawers, grab a few knives, and head down to our store to sharpen their knives to help our local children in need. Our event is 5 days this year to make it more convenient for everyone.  Tell your neighbors, friends and family.” added Pitner.

While people are waiting to get their knives sharpened, the local store has set up interactive stations with knife demonstrations, product demos, delicious bites of BBQ hot off the TRAEGER PELLET GRILLS (Saturday and Sunday) and samples from Robert Rothschild.  On Saturday, June 11th – Local Knife Smith Quinton Middleton will be at the store showcasing his hand-crafted cutlery.
